Manchester United are reportedly one of the sides best positioned to sign Benfica forward Darwin Nunez this summer.
Following his performance against Liverpool, Nunez was described as an ‘absolute beast’ on a Liverpool podcast last month and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Last month, reports claimed that Erik ten Hag had made an “express request” over a move for the 22-year-old forward. The Uruguay international has scored 34 goals in 41 appearances this season and one of those goals knocked Ten Hag’s Ajax side out of the Champions League.
Sports witness reported on Tuesday that Benfica hope to make around €100 million (£84.5 million) from Nunez’s transfer this summer.
The Portuguese outlet also claimed that Manchester United are one of the best-placed clubs to sign the right back, whose qualities Ajax manager Erik ten Hag “appreciates.”
Nunez has been in excellent form this season, impressing across Europe. The Benfica star is primarily a centre-forward but has also enjoyed success on the wing and in a deeper role this season, showing his versatility.
He could be a brilliant piece of business both in the short and long term should Manchester United secure him at a big-money move.
It seems likely that United will make some reinforcements for the squad this summer, and it appears as though Ten Hag is a big admirer of Nunez, so a move could be on the cards.
