Despite becoming a regular in Mikel Arteta’s team, Arsenal are reportedly considering selling Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arsenal officials are reportedly set to meet to discuss whether or not to sell defender Gabriel. The Brazilian has been a mainstay in the Gunners’ lineup, and he was among the first signings manager Mikel Arteta insisted on when he arrived at the club.
The Brazilian defender has been a mainstay of Arsenal’s back four this season, playing alongside Englishman Ben White, who joined the club from Brighton for £50 million last year. Arteta prefers to have a left-footed defender in his backline, as it provides balance when passing out from the back.
But the north London side’s Champions League hopes have been dealt a blow after they were defeated by Tottenham and Newcastle in their last two Premier League matches. And that could mean significant changes in the summer.
Tuttosport reports that Gabriel is one of Juventus’ top targets as the club seeks to rebuild. Despite claiming a Champions League berth, it was a steep decline for the club from its domination over the last 10 years.
The reports states that Juventus are preparing to sign Gabriel from Arsenal in a deal worth up to £51million. The Gunners are yet to decide whether they will accept the offer.
Arteta will not like the idea of losing one of his top centre-backs, but the lack of revenue from another year out of the Champions League is hitting the club in the pocket and might be forced to sell.
Having already spent more than 150 million on new players in the summer of 2021, Arsenal will be looking to recoup some of that money. Selling players may be one way to do this, particularly if TV revenues from the Champions League are not forthcoming.
Arteta wants to bring in a striker but strikers are expensive, especially when you want one of the top options; he also wants to sign two midfielders, as well as a right back.
Arsenal have not always been successful in selling players. The club has lost players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to other clubs for free.
Only the Joe Willock deal benefited Arsenal heavily. Matteo Guendouzi and Emi Martinez left for below their market value.
