Manchester United have struck a deal with Feyenoord for left-back Tyrell Malacia for a fee believed to be around €17m after hijacking Lyon’s attempt to buy the 22-year-old Netherlands international.
Lyon already had a verbal agreement with the player before Manchester United jumped in to hijack the deal on Monday night and had their proposal accepted by the club.
Feyenoord’s technical director, Frank Arnesen, was quoted by the Feyenoord news site 1908.nl as saying: “The agreement is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell. If he says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.”
Malacia has played 136 times for Feyenoord, where he came through the academy, and has played five times for the Netherland national team. He played 44 games for Feyenoord last season and racked up 6 goal contributions in all competitions.
Luke Shaw and Alex Telles were United’s principal options at left-back last season but Malacia’s imminent move could mean either Telles or Shaw could leave the club or Manchester United could have a flurry of Left backs at their disposal next season.
