Man United have eyes on Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, ahead of a huge summer transfer window for the Old Trafford side.
Manchester United are set for a big summer transfer window. The Red Devils need to reinforce this squad in many different positions, though doing it all in one go is easier said than done. Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already stated that this will be a marathon not a sprint. The success will not return overnight.
Whoever the manager is has to spend the cash wisely, targeting one position at a time. Things have become even more complicated due to injury issues all over the field. I’d argue the position that has been hit the hardest is left-back.
We haven’t seen Tyrell Malacia all year long, while Luke Shaw always picks up niggling problems. Hence, a move to bring in a new left-sided defender could be among the top priorities.
L’Equipe provide the latest rumour on that front, claiming Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy could be a possible target.
According to their information, United are showing an interest in signing the 28-year-old left-back, though they’ll face Premier League competition from Arsenal.
Mendy has dipped in and out of the Madrid team this season, which could lead to his exit this coming summer. United want consistency in that area of the field, with the Frenchman having a pretty clean record when it comes to injuries.
However, competition from Arsenal could make it tough. The Gunners also need a left-back as they’re not convinced by Zinchenko at this point. They’ll also have Champions League football on the table – and perhaps a Premier League title to boot…
Right now, United are probably behind in the race, but obviously that can change quickly.
