Man United are looking to seal a deal to sign young goalkeeper, Callan McKenna.
Manchester United have only used one goalkeeper so far this season; Andre Onana.
The Red Devils will be forced into a change over the coming weeks, with the man from Cameroon set to head to AFCON with his country. In all likelihood, it’ll be Altay Bayindir who is presented with an opportunity at long last…
United could also look to bolster their options in between the sticks, with a move to bring in a younger player in the form of Callan McKenna.
It’s the Daily Record with the claim, who state that United are ‘closing in on a deal’ to sign the goalkeeper, who currently plays his football for Queen’s Park.
According to the report, the Reds are in ‘advanced talks’ to seal a six-figure deal to sign the teenager, with the transfer set to be loaded with add-ons that could mean the transfer could eventually end up being a seven-figure sum.
The Scotland U19 international has already played seven first-team appearances for Queen’s Park, before being sidelined with injury.
United have been trailing McKenna for ‘some time’ and are looking to close a deal soon, fending off interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in the process.
As is always the case at youth level, you never really know how much a player will develop and grow, though it does feel like it’s a gamble worth taking for the Old Trafford club, who have typically done well with goalkeepers over the last decade or so.
McKenna may be wary about joining the club, though, particularly as Onana is still relatively young in goalkeeping terms. He may not want to risk the possibility of getting stuck behind the Cameroonian for many years to come.
