After finishing the 2021-22 season in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 33-49 win-loss record, the Los Angeles Lakers have relieved head coach Frank Vogel of his duties.
Although Vogel led the Los Angeles franchise to the NBA Championship in 2020, Lakers officials believe a new coach is needed after Sunday’s victory over the Denver Nuggets.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Frank both on and off the court. Frank is a great coach and a good man,” Lakers Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Rob Pelinka said in a statement.
“We will forever be grateful to him for his work in guiding us to the 2019-20 NBA championship. This is an incredibly difficult decision to make, but one we feel is necessary at this point. All of us here wish Frank and his wonderful family all the best for the future.”
Frank Vogel amassed a 127-98 win- loss record during his three-year stint with the Lakers, losing to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2021 playoffs.
