Earlier this week, Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand urged Arsenal to go and sign Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are expected to sign at least one, if not two, strikers before the start of next season.
Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both expected to walk away, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is gone already.
Arsenal are really short up top at the moment. A prolific striker is arguably the only thing they are missing and it will be really interesting to see who Arteta will go for in the summer.
Ferdinand thinks Jesus, who joined Manchester City for £27 million in 2016 (Sky Sports), would be a great signing.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said this week: “If I was Arsenal, I would go and buy Gabriel Jesus.”
That was right after transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester City are looking to bring in a new striker in the summer.
And that could push Jesus, who will enter the final year of his contract in July, out of the Etihad.
Jesus is still only 24 and has tons of experience under his belt already. He has played over 220 times for City in all competitions over the years and has directly contributed to 131 goals.
Which is a stunning return considering that he has never really been Pep Guardiola’s first choice.
The Brazilian has played just 108 minutes of football in the Premier League since Christmas.
If Arsenal really make a move for him in the summer, they may well get him, primarily because of Arteta.
Arsenal boss Arteta and Gabriel Jesus worked very closely during the former’s time as Manchester City’s assistant manager.
He used to help the Brazilian train every single day and the striker has only had good things to say about the current Gunners manager.
Right before Arteta left City to take over the Arsenal job, Jesus told Manchester Evening News: He’s helped a lot of players.
When I want to do finishing after training, I tell him and he comes and helps me,” the Brazilian said.
“So he is really fantastic for us. All the players know that — everyone knows that in the club. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic manager.”
Jesus would fit in at Arsenal very well and Arteta’s connection with him combined with the fact that he’s entering the final year of his contract soon could make him a gettable target this summer.
Arsenal should really consider signing him.
