Diego Simeone will coach Atletico when they face United in the final leg of their last-16 tie at Old Trafford, two years after knocking out Liverpool at the same stage after a thrilling 3-2 triumph at Anfield.
Simeone’s side had the best of the first leg in Madrid, hitting the crossbar twice, but were held to a 1-1 draw thanks to a late equalizer by substitute Anthony Elanga.
Despite having home advantage, Simeone stated that his Spanish champions know how to win on English soil and will enter the game unfazed.
“We’ve done well in similar games in this country before,” Simeone added.
We’ll follow the team’s instructions. We’re genuinely excited about the game, and we’re happy, which is crucial on an individual level if we’re going to play well as a team.
“It will be a dynamic game with alternating moments,” says the author. It’ll be the type of match you’d anticipate in a game like this, with the vertigo that comes with a side playing at home.
“I believe we will be able to hit on the counter, capitalizing on whatever mistakes they make.” I’m confident that we’ll be able to find solutions
and fix the situation.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League, scored a hat-trick against Spurs and will be particularly motivated for this match.
“I’m not afraid that he hasn’t been able to heal,” Rangnick added, “because he’s always been a person who takes for himself and his body, and he knows what to do.”
