It seems like the foxes have lost their touch, as they are rock bottom in the league with just 1 point in 7 games.
It makes you wonder: what is happening to the club that defiled all the odds to win the league title in 2016, what is wrong with the players and the manager?
Most of all:
“WHAT IS WRONG WITH LEICESTER CITY”?
2017-2022
Since the 2015/2016 season campaign, Leicester have been on the run.
Though not repeating the same tricks, they did manage to secure top half positions 6 times and an European spot.
The likes of Jamie Vardy, James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Kasper Schmeichel and Youri Tielemans have been notable faces in the squad, alongside rising striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Coupled with the tactics of Brandon Rodgers, the squad were able to tackle big names like Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool and even Manchester City.
In the 2019/2020 season, Vardy claimed the golden boot after scoring 23 goals, his second golden boot since 2016.
They also enjoyed an incredible run in the Europa Conference league tournament in 2022, but were knocked out by Roma in the semi final.
2022/2023
The summer window didn’t shine a big light on the club, as they lost more players than they gained.
One of the notable exits was Kasper Schmeichel, who left to play for the French outfit Nice.
The Danish shot-stopper has been a famous face in the club, making a total of 479 appearances in 7 years!
He was instrumental in their run to the league title back in the 2015/2016 season, their win against Chelsea in the 2021 FA Cup final, and Manchester City in the community shield face-off.
His departure from the king power stadium caused a big hole to appear, as they couldn’t get a replacement for him.
Danny Ward has been the first-choice keeper since the beginning of the season, wearing the famous No #1 shirt, but he has been anything but good between the sticks.
The Welsh man has failed to keep a single clean sheet in his last 7 matches, made an error, and has let it 22 shots, the most by any EPL keeper right now.
But the blame can’t sorely fall on the keeper, as the defense also hasn’t been strong on their foot.
The likes of Johnny Evans, Daniel Amartey, Timothy Castagne, and James Justin haven’t shown resilience in the heart of the team.
Wesley Fofana, who was arguably one of their brightest players last season left for Chelsea, creating yet another gap.
It is early to judge the new summer signing Wout Faes, who was brought in as his replacement, but from his performance against Tottenham, he could be in for some serious critics if he doesn’t step up.
The midfield and attack have been slightly solid, with the likes of James Maddison shining more than he pairs on the pitch.
The Englishman is the team’s current top scorer, with 3 goals, 2 higher than his other 6 teammates.
As it stands, Brandon Rodgers is under a lot of pressure, and it will be safe to see the improvements he could bring after the international break.
This is, if he isn’t sacked before then.
They will bounce back most definitely.
