Joan Laporta has once again hinted that Xavi may not be leaving Barcelona after all by insisting he will talk to the coach about his decision at the end of the season.
Xavi announced earlier in the year he intends to walk away, but his team’s form has improved dramatically in the wake of the announcement.
Here’s what Laporta’s had to say:
“We will discuss this issue at the end of the season. He is doing very well,” he told Catalunya Radio.
“He expressed himself in the sense in which he expressed himself, I understand that everything is open and everything is reviewable. I understood that there were circumstances that led him to do what he did but at the end of the season we will talk about it.”
Xavi’s side are aiming for a spot in the Champions League semi-finals next, and Laporta has urged supporters to play their part in helping the team past PSG.
“We have to go and cheer. These players deserve everything. We believe in them. We have all the confidence in them and they are on the way to making history,” he added.
“They are aware and are very focused. They deserve it. They know that they must give their all but we must help them. We played a great game in Paris and that is why I would like the Estadi to be a great pressure cooker and in this way we will advance to the semi-finals.”
Barca hold a 3-2 first-leg lead from the game at the Parc des Princes and will take on either Atletico or Dortmund if they progress.
