CHELSEA star Thiago Silva is all set to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer as he reached a verbal agreement with Fluminense.
He is out of contract at the end of the season and although some fans are keen for Silva to stay – particularly given the lack of leadership and experience in the squad – it seems that the Brazilian is dead set on departing the club.
It has been mentioned in previous weeks that a move back to his Homeland of Brazil is the preferred destination for the big man – and with just a few months left of the season – the club have not started any sorts of talks with the South American
Now the 39-year-old has decided to quit Chelsea as he is on the verge of joining Brazilian giants Fluminense on a free transfer at the end of the 2023/24 season, GOAL can confirm.
The veteran defender has already reached a verbal agreement with Fluminense and will officially sign for them once his contract with the Blues expires on June 30.
Amid all the speculation – former Blues star Frank Leboeuf feels that it is the right time for the Brazilian to leave the club: ‘I think the Chelsea defenders have done enough, especially against Manchester City, to prove that they can cope without Thiago Silva,’ Leboeuf told BetVictor.
‘The defence was so strong against City’s forwards who are amazing.
‘Thiago Silva has been a fantastic player for CHELSEA and I don’t want to deny that, but there is a time for everything to come to an end.
‘The young defenders at the club have proven that they are ready to play and I’m not even sure they would’ve been better off with him in the team against Liverpool
‘I’m not sure it will be a good thing if he stays next season.
‘It is time for him to leave and time for us all to say thank you to him.
‘I had my time, Marcel Desailly had his time and so did John Terry, there is an end for everyone.’
