Manchester City’s reward for beating Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final is another derby against United, after the Reds scraped past Coventry City on Sunday.
Bernardo Silva’s goal on Saturday ensured City progressed and, for a while, it looked like they’d be once again facing their old foe at Wembley. The reds were 3-0 up until Coventry staged a remarkable comeback to level the scores.
The Midlands side were then denied a last-minute, extra-time winner as Victor Torp poked home in the 121st minute, only to see it disallowed for the slimmest of offsides in the build-up.
United then went on to win the ensuing penalty shoot-out and set up the final clash with City on May 25th.
The Blues have already beaten United twice this season and will be confident of making it a hattrick of victories over the Stretford Reds. City won 3-0 at Old Trafford at the end of October as two goals from Erling Haaland and a late strike from Phil Foden gave City the bragging rights.
And the pair were at it again in March, this time Foden grabbing the brace with Haaland scoring late to seal the victory. Between them, the pair have scored 12 goals against the Reds, each scoring six and blues fans will be hoping the double act will be firmly on display at the end of next month.
