Man United have eyes on Lille striker, Jonathan David.
This Manchester United transfer window could be significant. At this stage, these Red Devils do not look convincing at all, while a place in the top four feels unlikely.
However, a signing or two could change the situation, while some key faces are set to return from injury.
It’s now common knowledge that United are potentially looking to bring in a striker of some description. Anthony Martial is out of favour right now, while Rasmus Hojlund, for all his quality and ability, isn’t scoring enough.
I initially assumed a loan move, much like the Wout Weghorst deal last summer, could ease the burden on Hojlund, though Football Transfers seem to think United could look for a permanent solution in the form of Jonathan David.
According to their latest information, United are ‘very interested’ in signing the 23-year-old striker during the January transfer window – though they’ll face competition from Aston Villa.
It’s stated that United and Villa have been asked to be ‘kept updated’ on the situation of the 23-year-old Canada international, who is a player that is continually linked with a string of big clubs.
The player is said to be keen to move on from Lille, while a deal could be struck in the weeks ahead. On top of that, United are ‘eager’ to add some additional firepower wherever possible, having scored the fewest number of goals in the Premier League’s top half.
Unless INEOS are ready to spend money, I struggle to see how this deal happens. FFP restrictions were pretty tight last time I checked. The only way I can see it happening is if the club can move on from the likes of Jadon Sancho and the aforementioned Martial on permanent deals.
