Man United have recently sent scouts to watch Atalanta defender, Giorgio Scalvini, in action.
Manchester United’s defence could look very different next term. Raphael Varane keeps picking up injury problems while there are rumours about his future, Lisandro Martinez has had a tough campaign, while neither Harry Maguire nor Victor Lindelof are guaranteed places within the first-team squad.
Without question, in terms of positions United are targeting, centre-back feels like it’s at the top of the list. On a daily basis, it seems as if a new central defender is being linked with a Theatre of Dreams switch.
Today’s rumour comes from journalist Matteo Moretto, who claims the Red Devils are looking at Giorgio Scalvini.
Currently plying his trade for Atalanta, Scalvini has improved over the last few years, with some top European sides now taking note.
Moretto’s information was short but sweet. He claims United have sent scouts to watch the emerging 20-year-old defender in ‘recent weeks’. Nothing more. Nothing less.

This feels like United aren’t yet sure either way on Scalvini, who has seemingly only recently popped up onto their transfer radar.
There’s no doubt that the Italy international has bags of potential, while it would make sense for United to try and get younger at the position. Scalvini would require some time to settle in, though, due to the fact that he’s still so young.
United and Atalanta have a good relationship due to their recent transfer dealing for Rasmus Hojlund. The Serie A club are always tough negotiations, though, and you’d have to expect the same thing again here.
