Man United are all set to strengthen their interest in Juventus and Brazil centre-back, Gleison Bremer.
Manchester United Football Club are undergoing major change this summer, with the Red Devils looking to make a positive start under their new owners. INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are hoping to impress the fans, showing a real glimpse into the future.
Signings are required. Before that, though, players may have to leave by way of balancing the books and clearing some space in the dressing room. Centre-back feels like the big position of need as of right now, with several names linked with filling that void. Among the players linked with making the switch more than most is Gleison Bremer.
Now, The Mirror have provided an update on that front, claiming that United are ready to ‘firm up’ their interest in the 27-year-old defender, as the Reds look to bolster their defence. This is all set to happen ahead of Dan Ashworth being appointed the club’s new Sporting Director.
Apparently, Ashworth has already endorsed a United move for Bremer, though it’s stressed those reports are unconfirmed here in England.
Bremer, who is said to have a £43m release clause in his contract, would be an astute signing. He’s someone who could come in and start week-in-week-out straight away, while the transfer fee isn’t thought to be considered ‘excessive’. Other names like Jarrad Branthwaite would cost considerably more.
In an ideal world, the club would bring in a couple of centre-backs. I don’t believe Raphael Varane will be here next season, while the same can likely be said about either Harry Maguire or Victor Lindelof. You’d assume one of the pair will leave.
Bremer will no doubt continue to attract heavy interest from United (and elsewhere) as we gear up to a massive summer window.
