Man United have eyes on AC Milan attacker, Rafael Leao.
Manchester United could well be in the market for a new attacker this coming summer. Preferably, someone who can come in and lead the line when Rasmus Hojlund is unavailable or needs a break.
Anthony Martial is set to be out the door on a free transfer this summer. Those minutes need replacing with genuine quality – though finding the right player is obviously easier said than done.
From now and the opening of the summer transfer window, several names will be linked with filling that void. The latest story comes from Fichajes, who believes the Reds have eyes on Rafael Leao.
According to their information, United have ‘set their sights’ on the attacker, who has 24 goal contributions for AC Milan this season (12 goals, 12 assists).
United will compete with Arsenal to acquire the 24-year-old Portugal international, though the player has a hefty pricetag, with Milan valuing the player at £125m (145m euro).
It’s stated that although Leao plays a similar role to Marcus Rashford, Fichajes believe the Englishman could be utilised centrally to ‘optimise’ his performance, while Leao plays out wide.
Rashford’s inconsistent season could also mean he may be out of the side.
First and foremost, I just do not believe United will pay over £100m for Leao this summer. Money is already tight and there are other areas of the squad that feel more pressing. Yes, the club should bring in an attacker. However, not one who costs that much.
It’s going to take significant negotiating for United to make this an affordable deal, though I fully expect Milan are not going to be willing to play ball.
This does feel like a long shot at this moment in time.
