Man United could look to Nottingham Forest’s Murillo to solve their defensive woes this summer.
Manchester United have been a mess defensively this season. Injuries haven’t helped, though Erik ten Hag must hold his hands up for some of the dodgy performances back there.
Victor Lindelof, Raphael VArane and Harry Maguire are getting older, while Lisandro Martinez has barely played this term. Some fresh blood, preferably someone younger, could help turn the tide back in a positive direction.
Several defenders have been linked with filling that void. Jarrad Branthwaite is the name that pops up most often, while don’t count out Jean-Clair Todibo. Today, Football Insider have thrown a new name into the mix; Murillo.
Apparently, United have ‘registered interest’ in signing the 21-year-old defender, though they are not alone in that regard. Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest.
In terms of asking price Forest will want ‘well in excess’ of £20m to let their star defender leave, after an excellent season from the young man.
Considering Murillo cost Forest £15m just last summer, you’d imagine the Premier League side will want to at least double their money on the investment. Perhaps somewhere closer to the £30m mark is more realistic.
What’s most impressive about Murillo is the fact he has started every single Premier League game for Forest this season. Whereas United haven’t had any consistency from their defenders, the Brazilian has been the epitome of the word ever since arriving at their club.
This is exactly the sort of signing United should be making. A young, improving player who is ready and able to start games on a week-in-week-out basis.
