Man United have seemingly stepped up their keenness on signing talented defender, Aaron Anselmino.
It does feel as though Manchester United are prioritising the signing of a defender this summer. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are seemingly looking to get younger at that key position, with all their central defenders, minus Lisandro Martinez, into their thirties.
Jarrad Branthwaite feels like the name who is atop the current list. The Englishman has been consistently linked with a Reds switch over the last weeks and months, though it makes sense to have other options in place.
Aaron Anselmino’s name is another that is being pushed somewhat heavily of late. Argentine publication Ole have provided the latest on that situation, claiming United are one of the sides who have ‘increased their interest’ in the 18-year-old defender.
It’s believed United, along with Milan, are in ‘firmer’ and more ‘concrete’ talks that could lead to an official offer being made for Anselmino.
In terms of asking price, Anselmino would cost around £16m. For Boca Juniors, that would represent a massive transfer fee received, for one of their crown jewels.
For United, or any other wealthy European club, that’s a relatively reasonable fee for a player of such talent. I guess you never quite know exactly how well Anselmino would adapt to the situation, but it feels worth the gamble when player’s like Amad have cost significantly more than that in the past.
Anselmino would have fellow Argentine Lisandro Martinez to help him settle in, while I’d give him a great chance at becoming Licha’s long-term partner within a few months of arriving at the club.
I understand that there’s significant interest in Anselmino from elsewhere, so United will not have it all their own way in the pursuit of the talented centre-half.
