Man United have eyes on FC Barcelona defender, Mikayil Faye, ahead of a potential move to sign the youngster this summer.
I think it’s now widely accepted that Manchester United will sign a defender of some description during the upcoming transfer window. The Old Trafford club are undergoing major change in that area of the field, there’s no getting away from that fact.
Raphael Varane is a little older, neither Harry Maguire nor Victor Lindelof’s futures are completely secure, while Lisandro Martinez’s injury issues are starting to make him an issue…
Several names have been linked with filling that void in a few months, perhaps none moreso than Jarrad Branthwaite at this point. However, today’s story throws a new, perhaps unfamiliar name into the mix; Mikayil Faye.
It’s the Daily Mail with the claim. They state that United ‘are following’ the talented defender ahead of a ‘potential’ summer transfer move for the man from Senegal.
United’s interest is backed up by a scouting mission to watch Faye in action for his country, Senegal, this week. He’d score a spectacular goal on that international debut during a win over Gabon. The Reds have been ‘following his progress’ for the last three months.
Faye, currently a Barcelona B player, can be deployed at either centre-back or left-back. Two positions that could need some extra help when the summer rolls around.
Barcelona have already rejected offers for Faye with Nice and Lens tabling £13m bids in the January transfer window. However, as he continues to improve, more sides are showing an interest in the teenager.
United are ‘actively looking’ to sign a left-back and/or centre-back this summer, while Faye could do both those jobs if necessary.
It’s thought around £25m could get a deal done at this point in time. With money tight for the Old Trafford club, this could be the ideal moment to strike and try to get Faye in on the cheap.
