Man United have eyes on centre-back Gleison Bremer, due to the Brazilian’s low release clause.
Manchester United continue to be linked with a move to bring in a new central defender this summer. We’ve said it tonnes of times already, but it definitely makes sense given the current situation in that area of the field.
Lisandro Martinez has had an injury-hit year. Raphael Varane isn’t getting any younger. The future both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire is far from certain.
Several names have been linked with filling that void, including Gleison Bremer. The Juventus centre-back, who continues to impress over in Turin, is close to the top of the Reds’ wishlist.
Now, the I newspaper have shared their latest information on that front. They say that United have made signing a new centre-back a ‘top priority’, with Bremer among the options, along with Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
United are eyeing a move for the 26-year-old centre-back Bremer, who is viewed as a ‘cut-price option’ due to his release clause, which stands at around the £43m mark.
The Old Trafford club will face competition in the race to sign Bremer, who is attracting interest from Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
United have to be wary of FFP and Premier League spending restrictions, so a move for Bremer could save them money, rather than splashing the cash on the aforementioned Branthwaite.
The I believe that Bremer’s wage demands could become an issue. He’s already far more accomplished than Branthwaite, so in that regard, United may have to splash the cash – something which they want to avoid doing under INEOS as the new part-owners look to regain some control on the finances at the Theatre of Dreams.
