Man United are once again being linked with a move to sign Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.
The right-back position at Manchester United is certainly intriguing. Diogo Dalot has improved greatly over the last six months, finally starting to look like someone who can make that position his own.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is arguably the best defensive full-back in the world, particularly in the one-on-one situation. However, in terms of stylistic fit, he just never felt right for an Erik ten Hag team. There’s a chance he is on the move this coming summer.
As a result, United may have to dip their toes into the right-back transfer market. Fichajes provides the latest update on that front, linking the Old Trafford club with a move to bring in Denzel Dumfries.
While drafting up a list of players who could leave Inter Milan this summer, Dumfries’ name was among them.
According to Fichajes’ information, it’s stated that United ‘could be interested’ in signing the 28-year-old full-back who is having another good year with the Serie A club. Chelsea are also credited with a keenness on bringing in the Dutchman.
What makes this interesting is that contract negotiations between Dumfries and Inter Milan are said to have ‘stalled’, thus leading to the fact that the player ‘could consider’ an exit from his current club.
This isn’t the first time Dumfries has been linked with a United switch, nor will it be the last (unless the move actually happens). I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the player trying to gain some leverage and earn more money from a potential new contract from Milan.
However, if he’s actually considering an exit, this could be a move worth looking at depending on the price. Dumfries can show some inconsistencies within his game but on the whole, he is a very good right-back. I guess it also depends on whether Ten Hag will still be in the job beyond the summer.
