Man United have eyes on Middlesbrough midfielder, Hayden Hackney.
Here at Old Trafford Faithful, we’re big believers in Manchester United returning to their roots and putting more trust in youth. For far too many times, the Reds have been burnt by spending big on marquee signings that have not quite worked out.
Whether Erik ten Hag will do that is another matter entirely. Though you’d like to think he’ll take inspiration from the success of both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho of late.
Well, the latest news from the Daily Mail says United are eyeing an emerging starlet from the Championship. It’s Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney who is attracting attention.
The Reds aren’t the only side credited with interest, as Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and our noisy neighbours also keen.
United are among the sides who are said to have ‘watched’ the talented midfielder in action, though the player is unlikely to make a January transfer, with a summer switch more likely.
Clubs from lower down the Premier League pecking order could look to test Boro’s resolve in the winter window, though the player would prefer to remain where he is until the end of the campaign.
Hackney, 21, has plenty of experience, having turned into a regular for the Championship side over the last couple of seasons. He plays with a maturity beyond his years, though making the step up to the Premier League is not going to be an easy one.
The young man would need time to settle and adjust, though no doubt he’s getting pointers from his current gaffer, Michael Carrick.
This feels like a player who’d be able to come in and do a job as a rotational piece, rather than a regular starter, but if the price is right then why not?
