Joe Hugill is all set to sign a new Man United contract, after impressing manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United have always excelled when it comes to young players. Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo are thriving right now, with a whole host of talented teens looking to follow in their footsteps.
Perhaps the next in line is Joe Hugill. The striker, who was part of the FA Youth Cup-winning side from a couple of years ago, continues to go from strength to strength.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-year-old attacker is ‘expected’ to sign a new contract with the Reds after impressing manager, Erik ten Hag.
The striker is yet to make his full United debut, though has been in a couple of senior match day squads of late. This follows his pretty good pre-season with the Old Trafford side, with the Englishman leading the line well during his limited minutes during the tour.
United are considering a loan move for Hugill in the January transfer window, before considering his position next summer.
This feels like an astute move, with Hugill now at that stage in his career where regular football is a must in order to continue his development.
I actually think there’s a real chance he can back-up Rasmus Hojlund next term, rather than spending big money on a back-up forward.
Hugill’s ability to run the channels, lead the press and become that focal point for the attack is exactly what United need in a back-up. This young lad certainly has the ability to do just that and I’d love to see him given an opportunity to prove his worth – assuming he enjoys a successful loan during the second half of this season.
