Hansi Flick wants to replace Erik ten Hag as Man United manager.
Manchester United may have already made the decision to replace Erik ten Hag as Manchester United boss this summer. Let’s be real, the results have not been poor and the Dutchman is not an INEOS man.
Pressure is undoubtedly growing on Ten Hag. There’s a chance an FA Cup final victory against Manchester City may not save him, even though victory in that game looks like a long shot.
The links to other manager’s are now starting to grow. Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate appear to be the early front-runners. Neither name fills me with confidence if I’m honest…
Now, talkSPORT have thrown another name into the mix; Hansi Flick.
According to their latest information, the 59-year-old manager has ‘expressed an interest’ in replacing Ten Hag as United boss.
Flick is currently unemployed, after some mixed results over his last two jobs. The German had an excellent run as Bayern Munich boss over a couple of seasons, winning the Bundesliga in back-to-back campaigns.
He’d then take the Germany national team job, though that didn’t go according to plan. He struggled during the World Cup over in Qatar.
Flick is known for his high-pressing playing style, which is certainly the in-tactic among the top clubs. You look at Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp as the two masters in that sense. Would Flick be able to compete with the man from Catalonia next season? Who knows…
I’d give Flick an outside shot at succeeding here at Old Trafford. Purely due to the fact that this is probably the toughest job in football right now. So many big names have tried and failed, so quite frankly, I’d have no confidence in anyone coming in and enjoying success.
The pressure is on INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to start changing the mentality around the place first, building the right environment for both managers and players to succeed. That will take time.
