The game of the weekend in La Liga is the monster Top 4 clash between Catalan rivals as Barcelona face co-leaders Girona at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium on Sunday night. Barça need a win to seriously re-enter the title race, while Girona want to make a statement that they’re for real and can make a real push for the championship for the rest of the season.
One of the key pieces in Girona’s exceptional season so far has been Aleix García. The 26-year-old Spanish international has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the country this season, thriving with an increased role in the team after the departure of Oriol Romeu to Barça in the summer.
García upped his defensive level this year and improved even more as a passer and creative force, and is one of the key reasons for Girona’s excellent attacking record. He’s now one of the many Girona players linked with a move away from the club thanks to their success, and Barça have already been mentioned as a possible destination for a player born in Catalonia and who was coached by Pep Guardiola during his time at Manchester City.
And if it’s up to Aleix, he would move to Camp Nou in the blink of an eye if the opportunity ever presented itself. Speaking to Spanish media ahead of the game gainst Barça, García revealed he grew up as a Barça fan and would like to play for the Blaugrana someday.
“I would like to play for Barcelona. It is the club that I have followed since I was little and the one that I have always liked.”

The problem for García is that his words haven’t gone down too well with Girona manager Míchel, who suggested in a press conference this week that Aleix should focus more on the team’s Copa del Rey clash against Orihuela on Thursday instead of talking about his love for Sunday’s opponents.
“The best thing that can happen to us in a long week like this is to play the Copa, because my mind is focused entirely on Orihuela. It’s true that for many people the game on Sunday is more important, but I think Aleix has made a mistake.”
