Manchester City will start their defence of the FA Cup by welcoming Huddersfield Town to the Etihad Stadium.
The blues brought the trophy to the blue side of Manchester for the seventh time when Ilkay Gundogan’s brace saw of the Stretford Rangers and secured the second of their three trophies won last season.
Huddersfield last won the famous old trophy in 1922, when they beat Preston North End 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, the last FA Cup Final played at a club ground before moving to Wembley.
The Terriers have also been runners-up on four occasions, and last reached the final in 1938, ironically losing 1-0 to Preston.
City and Huddersfield have met just three times in the FA Cup, with the blues progressing each time. Their first meeting was January 1926 which ended in a 4-0 win for City at Maine Road.
In January 1988, City were paired with the Terriers in the third round and needed a last-minute goal from John Gidman to force a replay, which finished 0-0 at Maine Road. The second replay took place 13 days later and saw City progress with a 3-0 win at Leeds Road.
City were drawn to face Town in February 2017. A 0-0 away draw was followed by a 5-1 win for the blues in the replay. Harry Bunn had given Huddersfield the lead in the 7th minute, sparking hopes of an upset in the TV commentary box. By half-time, City led 3-1 and two further second-half goals saw the blues comfortably through.
The tie will be played on the weekend of 5-8 January.
