Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is believed to be keen on a move to Man United this January.
Manchester United certainly need help up front. The Old Trafford side have Rasmus Hojlund as a star of the future, though in the here and now, the feeling is that he cannot carry that burden all alone.
Anthony Martial’s days at the Theatre of Dreams are also looking numbered, with the Frenchman possibly leaving the club as early as this month.
If the ex-AS Monaco man does depart, United would have to make a move to bring someone in – probably on a loan or short-term deal, similar to how the Reds acquired Wout Weghorst last January.
GiveMeSport’s Dean Jones has provided an update on one potential target in the form of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
According to Jones’ latest information, the 34-year-old striker is said to be ‘keen’ on a United transfer this month. On top of that, he said the Reds could make a ‘surprise’ move to bring in the forward.
Choupo-Moting has spent the last couple of years with Bayern Munich, though this time around, he has seen his minutes dwindle following the arrival of Harry Kane.
The forward could look to move on in order to earn more minutes elsewhere. No doubt, United could offer him that luxury, particularly if Martial does indeed leave.
I’m not usually a fan of these short term deals, though bringing in someone experienced like Choupo-Moting could well be the correct play. He’d not only become a reliable option in multiple positions, but he’d add some leadership and genuine quality on a short-term deal, before the club address the situation properly in the summer.
