Man United are willing to cash in on Mason Greenwood this summer.
Manchester United Football Club have very limited money to spend this coming summer. Any sort of sizable transfer budget is largely reliant on selling players first.
With many players on overinflated wages, it may be tough to move on from some of the larger earners, like Casemiro and Jadon Sancho.
However, one man who could be a prime target for some clubs is Mason Greenwood. It is believed no firm decision has been made on the Englishman’s future, though that could have changed recently if Getafe’s Club President, Angel Torres, has been receiving the correct information.
According to the Getafe club president, United are ‘prepared’ to cash in on the star, assuming they receive a ‘good proposal’ for his services. What’s interesting here is that Torres believes Getafe have a genuine chance at being able to bring Greenwood back to their club for the 2024/25 campaign – presumably on loan.
Check out what Angel Torres said in full here:
“Yes, Man United are prepared to sell Greenwood in case they receive a good proposal”. Getafe president Angel Torres told Marca Radio, per Fabrizio Romano.
“He could stay here for one more year, we will see”.
I am firmly of the opinion that Greenwood shouldn’t play for United again, though I also believe it’d be infinitely more beneficial to sell him on a permanent deal now. The longer United leave it to cash in, the smaller the future fee they’re going to receive due to his contract expiry date moving closer.
If another loan is the only option then fine, get him away from the club. However, I reckon United will have plenty of interest arriving at their doorstep as by all accounts, the Englishman has been playing well over in La Liga.
A clean break is absolutely the right decision. Greenwood would probably relish a second crack at the whip at Old Trafford, though there’s too much water under the bridge. The amount of stick he’d (rightly) receive from away fans up and down the country could become a real problem, while don’t forget the United’s Women’s team were rightly upset when there were whispers claiming he could come back.
