FC Barcelona’s signings this season have not won starting jobs as some had hoped, with only two players becoming key names in the starting XI: İlkay Gündoğan and João Cancelo.
And it’s worth noting that Cancelo has faced a lot of criticism over his performances in the last few matches, especially in the defending area.
Oriol Romeu has failed to make an impression and been relegated to only occasional appearances despite multiple injuries in midfield.
Iñigo Martínez has fallen behind Pau Cubarsí in the pecking order, although it should be said that the youngster has operated at a very high level.
João Félix has not made his mark and is behind another youngster, Lamine Yamal, as well as Raphinha.
Vitor Roque has had very few opportunities and been used very sparingly, even as Robert Lewandowski is advancing in age.
Not all of these players were considered surefire starters when signed, but most of them probably envisioned at least bigger roles.
