All summer, Arsenal have been in the market for a new winger to replace Nicolas Pepe. The search has seen the Gunners linked with different players over the course of the window.
While it is important for either Pepe or Reiss Nelson to leave the side, getting a perfect replacement has been a serious headache for Mikel Arteta and Edu.
The Gunners appear to be keen on bolstering their wide areas this summer and have already been linked with a move for Cody Gakpo, Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby. However, it appears that the Gunners are intent on getting a Premier League star instead.
As per The Sun, Arsenal have held talks to sign Pedro Neto and are ready to pay £35m for his services but Wolves want a fee close to £50m.
Meanwhile, David Ornstein in his write-up on The Athletic, confirmed that the Gunners have made signing Neto a priority as we approach the final few days of the transfer window, with the hopes that Nicolas Pepe would complete a loan move to Nice.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal and Wolves have been in contact – through an intermediary – as per finalizing a deal for more than a month and the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is the one acting as the intermediary.
Ornstein also believes that Arsenal might be reluctant to spend big on Neto, having exceeded the £100m mark this summer. On his part, Cutts claims that Mikel Arteta is a ‘huge fan’ of the 22-year-old but Wolves want around £50m after Neto signed a five-year contract in March.
