Agent says Tottenham made ‘official bid’ for Arsenal star David Raya; explains why it was rejected
David Raya’s agent Jaume Munell has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur made an official bid for the Spanish goalkeeper this summer.
But he added that the bid was rejected due to being lower than Brentford’s valuation of the 28-year-old star. The Gunners ultimately signed Raya on a season-long loan deal with the option to make it permanent for £27million next year.
“Tottenham also was interested and made an official bid but it was refused because was lower than the €40m [£34.9m] that Brentford wanted to sell him.”

Let’s be honest here. It isn’t the case of sour grapes, but hardly any Spurs fans right now would want to swap Guglielmo Vicario for Raya. Sure, the Spaniard is good with the ball at his feet.
Spurs should have no regrets
But Vicario is a balanced goalkeeper who does the basics of goalkeeping very, very well. He is in the prime years of his career and is very agile and quick between the sticks — traits Hugo Lloris was gradually losing.
Moreover, and this is a very crucial aspect… we signed Vicario for almost half the amount his agent is quoting above. The 27-year-old cost us just £17.2million to sign from Empoli this summer.Guglielmo Vicario was very impressive for Tottenham (Photo by Alex Pantling/Getty Images)
Raya, moreover, has been looking shaky at times. He doesn’t seem to be commanding the post with confidence every single game. But that is, in all honesty, part and parcel of the game for a goalkeeper who is asked to play more with his feet.

The agent also stated that Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and obviously, Arsenal were interested in Raya. Spurs did the right thing by not getting involved in a needless bidding war. The scouting department deserves big credit for finding Vicario.
