Man United still have eyes on Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, as the club look to improve defensively over the summer.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will want to make a positive impression among the Manchester United fans this summer, while also ensuring they do not overspend and more importantly, overpay.

The Red Devils have splashed the cash recklessly for far too long. That has to change as soon as possible, though quality will still need to be added to that dressing room.

Among the names linked with a potential Old Trafford switch somewhat heavily is Jarrad Branthwaite. The Englishman has been part of a solid Everton back line this term, proving his worth on several occasions.

Now, The Telegraph have weighed in on the situation. They state that the 21-year-old defender is ‘being looked at’ by Man United, as the Reds make strengthening their back line a ‘priority’ this summer.

United are yet to push forward with their summer plans, though Branthwaite is ‘highly regarded’ by those in charge at the Manchester club.

There is uncertainty over the position, with Raphael Varane’s future up in the air. He has one full season left on his contract, amid interest from Saudi clubs.

In terms of replacement, Branthwaite would be perfect. It seems as though Ratcliffe wants to sign as many homegrown players as possible. There’s not many Englishmen out there more talented than the young defender.

He’d certainly cost a pretty penny, but I fully expect he’d be worth it. You’re sort of praying for an Everton relegation at this point as it could somewhat force their hand into parting with one of their prized assets, purely to stay afloat from a financial perspective.
