Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min gives fresh update after injury scare on South Korea duty

Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min had a huge injury scare in South Korea’s FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier match against Singapore earlier today (16 November).

The Spurs superstar scored in the 63rd minute with a deadly left-footed strike from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 for his team. Everything seemed to be going well for Jurgen Klinsmann’s team.

But in the closing stages of the game, Son was at the end of a rough tackle from behind, which left him on the floor for a couple of minutes. He hobbled off the pitch to get some treatment.Tottenham captain Son Heung-min talks about the club's Premier League title charge. However, he played the entirety of the game for his country, as they cruised to a 5-0 win in their group-stage opener, which also has Thailand and China. After the game, the 31-year-old assuaged fans’ fears, confirming that he did not suffer a big injury.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star said, via @Sungmo_Lee on X (h/t Metro):

“I am fine now, I don’t like to lie down (on the pitch) in the winter. At that moment (I went down) I couldn’t feel anything on my foot. It’s not only me, all players have small injuries but still play for the team.”

Those who follow Son’s exploits with the national team would know that this isn’t the first time it has happened. He has a habit of playing on even after an injury scare, and he really does put South Korea on top of the pedestal in such instances.

Given that the game was a foregone conclusion when Son went down, Klinsmann should have protected his star player and taken him off, because knowing Son, he clearly doesn’t want to come off if he knows that there is a chance that he can play on.

Spurs have been riddled with injuries since the 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea, with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven on the sidelines. Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero, and Yves Bissouma have also picked up red cards in recent weeks.

Richarlison, meanwhile, has undergone pelvic surgery and is out for a while. Son getting injured is the absolute last thing we need. Klinsmann has every right to play his best player in important games (or even friendlies), so we can expect the Tottenham man to feature against
