Former CHELSEA defender Glen Johnson thinks that Reece James will be tempted by a move to Real Madrid as the speculation continues to ramp up.
James signed a bumper new six-year contract at the clublast year (2022), which nets him a reported wage of £250,000-a-week, and made him one of the highest earners in the club.
However – there was alot of transfer speculation over the summer window that Madrid were very interested in trying to get a deal done for the Englishman, but were unable to convince Chelsea to let him leave Stamford Bridge.
But Spanish publication Nacional claims Perez is ‘convinced’ Real Madrid’s priority next summer ‘must be the incorporation of a right back’ with their ‘trust in Dani Carvajal limited’.
Now, amid all the speculation and rumours – former defender Glen Johnson thinks that James will be tempted by a move to Real Madrid as the speculation continues to ramp up.
“Maybe Chelsea made him captain because of Real Madrid’s interest in him,” Johnson told GGRecon.
“Reece obviously loves CHELSEA and I believe it would be a very tough decision for him to leave. If the club wants to compete with the best teams in the world, then you can’t allow your best players to move to Real Madrid.”
But while James has had a tough time of late because of injuries, he is arguably one of the best full-backs in the world when fully fit, and is a man that Mauricio Pochettino obviously has big things in mind for.
