Hibernian boss Nick Montgomery lavishes praise on Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou
According to The Daily Mail, Hibernian head coach Nick Montgomery has namedropped Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou as the wayfarer for Australian coaches to succeed in the English game.
Postecoglou’s arrival at Celtic in 2021 was met with skepticism, especially given that the Hoops had just surrendered their title to hated rivals Rangers. Their fall from grace was to be short lived as the Australian took them back to the perch and brought back the fun to Celtic Park.
A return of five domestic trophies in two years, especially by employing eye-catching attacking football soon won him admirers. It thus came as no surprise that Tottenham swooped in earlier this summer to secure his services. Ange Postecoglou has brought back the fun at Tottenham Hotspur. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)
The 58-year-old has gotten Spurs off to a good start, picking up 10 points from their first four Premier League games. While the Carabao Cup exit to Fulham did raise questions, there is little doubt that Tottenham are on the right path.
Postecoglou’s success has also given renewed hope to Australian managers that they can follow in his footsteps and make a name for themselves in England. This is the feeling of Hibernian manager Nick Montgomery who believes his Tottenham counterpart has now paved the way for others to follow in his wake.
“The media around Ange and the negativity when he came over to Scotland, he quashed that pretty quickly.”

Postecoglou’s CV before arriving at Celtic was limited to Australia and Japan. While his stint as the Kangaroos’ national team boss from 2013-2017 did bring him to attention, it fell short of making him a household name.
The same cannot be said of the 58-year-old now as he continues to attract more followers to his cause. Success certainly can change people’s perceptions and Tottenham will hope that the Australian is not done cooking yet.

Postecoglou has in the past talked about how he was inspired by Bill Shankley and the legendary Liverpool boot room. The ethos of those football giants helped evolve Liverpool into a legendary team. We hope those learnings will help Ange cement his own legacy at the N-17.
It is still early days but the signs look promising indeed.
