Paul Scholes doesn’t believe Diogo Dalot is ‘good enough’ for Man United

Paul Scholes reckons Man United will have to upgrade at right-back, with Diogo Dalot deemed not good enough.

Over the last decade or so, Manchester United have only trended downwards. It’s a sad situation. The club is not good enough at ownership level, with the rot now setting in.

Erik ten Hag has done a decent job so far, though in the current environment, no manager in the world can succeed at the highest level season-in-season-out. Money has been wasted. Far too much of it, in terms of both weekly wages to players and transfer fees.

One player who epitomises the current situation is Diogo Dalot. Don’t forget that a few years ago he wasn’t deemed good enough, then loaned out to AC Milan. He has since been handed another big-money contract…

Now, Paul Scholes has had his say on the right-back situation, claiming that the United player isn’t ‘good enough’, particularly when it comes to the ‘big games’ for the club. He also believes Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t the ideal player for United, in terms of balance.

Check out what Scholes had to say in full here:

“I’m not sure if the right-back’s good enough, [Diogo] Dalot, when it comes to the big games. I’m not sure his character is big enough to handle the big games. [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka can do it defensively not a problem. Going forward. he has improved, don’t get me wrong. I just think the balance of the team has been a little bit wrong.” Scholes told the Webby and O’Neill YouTube channel.

Dalot has been good in fits and spurts, though overall, the quality just isn’t there. He’s supposed to be brilliant in the attacking third, though the lack of goals and assists is there for all to see. He’s just not as effective as we were all led to believe.

In the long run, United absolutely need another right-sided defender. Dalot has been defensively culpable for a few of the goals conceded in some big spots over the last few weeks. He’s just not learning from his mistakes and at this stage in his career, it’s probably never going to sink into his brain.

In the meantime, I much prefer to see Wan-Bissaka in the side. Yes, he’s far from the ideal solution but unlike Dalot, the Englishman has improved.
