Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount, with contract negotiations between the player and the Blues at a standstill.
Mount has been at Chelsea throughout his career. He has had loan spells with Vitesse and Derby County, but other than that he has always appeared in the famous blue shirt of Chelsea.
Mount has scored 30 goals and registered 31 assists in 160 appearances for Chelsea. The midfielder got his chance to shine under manager Frank Lampard and is now an important part of the first team.
Mount has been voted as Chelsea’s Player of the Season for the last two consecutive seasons.
The England International performed well in the 21/22 season. He scored 13 goals in 53 games during the season. In addition, he had 16 assists and finished third on the team in scoring, behind only Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz.
Chelsea now want to reward his performances with a new contract offer that would give him more than £160,000 a week – potentially even more than that.
However, sources tell PraizSports that contract renewal talks between Mount and club officials have stalled due to a key development—the takeover.
The future of Mason Mount is in doubt, as new owner Todd Boehly has yet to reach a deal with the Englishman. A source close to the situation claims that Mount’s position is ‘no longer secure’ due to the delay in talks, despite his current contract running until 2024.
Manchester United are keeping tabs and monitoring Mason’s future at Chelsea and have told the attacking midfielder’s agent about their interest.
Erik Ten Hag, who has reportedly been tracking the player since his loan spell with Vitesse in Holland, is keen to work with Mount at Old Trafford.
Mount’s current contract does not expire until 2024. This means that Chelsea will be able to keep hold of the midfielder for at least another season.
As of right now, it seems unlikely that the Blues would be willing to part ways with one of their academy graduates who has already become a prominent member of the first-team squad.
Even if the blues are forced into a sale, they are unlikely to sell to a direct rival like Manchester United, they are more likely to do business with a foreign club like Real Madrid.
