Man United named as one of sides set to ‘battle’ to sign Marcos Leonardo

Man United are among the clubs credited with an interest in the highly-touted Marcos Leonardo.

Manchester United Football Club need to find someone to ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund. Right now, the young Dane is carrying the weight of the attacking output firmly on his shoulders. It’s pretty unfair to ask a man of just twenty to carry such a heavy load.

Anthony Martial is not offering anything. It’s why he has been deemed surplus to requirements, assuming the right offer comes in. His sale could potentially generate the funds to bring in someone new, someone hungry, someone who fits the system.

Enter, Marcos Leonardo.

It’s The Standard with the story. They say European clubs are set to ‘battle’ to sign the 20-year-old striker when the January transfer window opens.

It’s stated that United and Arsenal have been linked with Leonardo in recent months, though further ‘sturdy competition’ in the form of AS Roma and Newcastle United.

Leonardo plies his trade for Brazilian side Santos, having struck seventeen times for his club this season. There were offers for his services over the summer, but now, Leonardo is ‘primed’ to move on.

From a United standpoint, this feels like the ideal situation. The Reds could do with another attacker who’d be happy to support Hojlund, at least in the short term. Leonardo could do just that, while continuing to learn his trade.

The problem is that this wouldn’t be an easy deal to manoeuvre. Other clubs could be an infinitely more attractive proposition right now, while money is also tight under the current regime.

My other concern is that United rarely have luck when it comes to signing South Americans. Surely that has to turn soon though, right…?

Do you think a Man United move for Marcos Leonardo would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
