Man United could sit down with Bruno Fernandes for new contract talks this summer, though he won’t be offered a mega-money pay rise.
Manchester United are trying to do business a little differently under INEOS. The club are starting a fresh with Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the helm, as they start to set new guidelines in regard to spending money.
In some sense, the damage has already been done. Big money contracts have been offered to some bang average players. Thus, it’s making it tight in regard to passing FFP.
One man who does deserve the money he’s currently earning is Bruno Fernandes. His current deal has two years left to run, though according to Football Insider, United could sit down with the star this summer, to discuss a new deal.
However, that deal will not involve a mega-money pay rise following the SJR takeover. It’s worth noting the Reds have the option to extend his contract by a further twelve months, so there’s no real urgency to get a deal done this summer.
Football Insider add that Al-Hilal are interested in signing Bruno, though he is happy at Old Trafford despite the mixed season both he and the team are having.
Bruno is the captain of this team. He’s undoubtedly one of the better players, too. It makes sense to want to keep him around in the long run, while it also would send out a good message to the rest of the squad if even he is willing to have his wages reined in somewhat.
This idea is all well and good, though putting it into action may well be tough – particularly when these players can just move clubs and earn mega-money elsewhere.
