Real Betis want to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy

As per a tweet from transfer journalist Rudy Galetti, Spanish side Real Betis are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso initially on loan.

Betis want this signing as a priority and movements are expected to take place regarding this deal. An obligation-to-buy clause would be added along with a loan move.

Earlier in the window, it was revealed that Barcelona boss Xavi is a huge admirer of the Argentina international. Tottenham have since rejected a loan offer from the La Liga champions.

Lo Celso’s contract at Spurs expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). So, if the club does not want to let him go now, a decision about his future has to be made in the near future.

The 27-year-old spent the last season on loan at Villarreal and did not play much there. If we look at the numbers, he only played 1405 minutes, scoring two goals and assisting three (Transfermarkt).

The playmaker is no stranger to spending a season or two on loan at Betis. He did that between 2018 and 2019 before permanently signing for them from Paris-Saint Germain in 2019.

He signed for Spurs that very summer but has not been able to cut it as a regular starter here. It remains unclear what sort of plans Ange Postecoglou has for him if he does not leave the club this summer.

Given the uncertainty around it, it might not be a bad decision to let Lo Celso go. Betis are anyway ready to attach a buy clause at the end of his loan spell. Spurs should accept that and move on with their transfer businesses.
