Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson is set to sign a four-year contract extension, according to reports in the English media.
The 23-year-old’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the season but he is now prepared to commit his long-term future to the Gunners.
Fans on Twitter are mostly happy that Nelson is staying, although a few still don’t think he will be given many opportunities by manager Mikel Arteta next campaign:
Huge news. Great decision from the club

I had openly said I didn’t think he had a future prior to the season, but I actually think he’s the perfect fit and a better option out wide than Trossard.
Fair play to him

Whhhaaaattt…I’m really happy about this. Not ready to give up on Reiss. Also means we can invest funds elsewhere

Nelson has only made five starts this season, none of which have been in the league, but Arsenal were keen to keep hold of the player to ensure they have enough squad depth. Instead of devoting some funds to finding a replacement, the club can now put more resources into reinforcing the defence and midfield.
The likes of Brighton, Aston Villa, Fulham and West Ham had been interested in securing Nelson’s signature. However, the winger’s preference was always to remain at the Emirates.
