Barcelona have been warned that Gavi could be out for over eight months after suffering an ACL tear on international duty with Spain.
The Catalan giants confirmed on Monday that their teenage midfielder has suffered a “complete tear” of his ACL and an “associated injury to the lateral meniscus.”
Gavi will now undergo surgery in the next few days and Barca are likely to provide a timeline of when he might return at that point.
However, Dr Ripoll of the Ripoll and De Prado Sport Clinic (a FIFA accredited medical center of excellence) has warned it will be a long time until Gavi is back out on the pitch.
“Recovery in 6 months is ruled out, it will be 8 months or more. A good recovery is important and you can recover completely,” he told Jijantes.
If the estimate proves to be correct then it means Gavi will miss the rest of the season, the Euros and the Olympics and won’t return until pre-season.
