Erik ten Hag has shared the latest information on the Lisandro Martinez injury front.
Manchester United Football Club picked up an important three points in front of the Old Trafford Faithful yesterday, beating West Ham United 3-0.
Erik ten Hag can be pleased with the display on the whole, with the second half in particular looking bright. Defensively, the Reds look far more solid all of the sudden, directly coinciding with the return of Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine had been out for four months with yet another problem, though he had looked great upon his return – until yesterday…
Licha would, typically, throw himself into a tackle, though he’d get his legs tangled up with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal. Sadly, the ex-Ajax man would come off worse for wear, seemingly having a knee issue…
Martinez would come off a few minutes after trying to play on, though it never looked likely. after the game, Ten Hag offered an injury update on the situation – and it doesn’t sound like good news.
See what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“It seems bad, we have to wait and make the right diagnosis. In this moment we are very sad, hopefully it is not too bad but we can only pray. It looks like he has to sit some games out injured again.” Ten Hag told journalist Shamoon Hafez.
Honestly, it’s just gutting. Licha is not only our best defender, but also our most important leader. You need players like him in the side because he brings the energy, physicality and overall quality.
The fact that he is now looking at another spell on the sidelines is massively disappointing. This time around, it’s through no fault of his own. Sadly, these sort of incidents happen in football. It was a coming together between two fully grown men, with nobody at fault.
We’ll have to wait for the official diagnosis, but if Ten Hag is coming out and saying that it seems bad, then I genuinely fear the worst.
I’ve seen some folk suggest that Licha is injury prone, but I fully believe that’s not the case. Sadly, this is just one of those unfortunate situations. Hopefully, the news is better than first feared and he’s not out for too long as we seriously need him.
