Arsenal have completed the signing of Sao Paulo youngster Marquinhos after being alerted of his exploits in Serie A.
The club’s manager Mikel Arteta has been tracking the 19-year-old and has now pulled the trigger on signing him for £3million.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported the news on Twitter saying that ‘Arsenal has reached an agreement with São Paulo for the transfer of Brazilian winger Marquinhos.’
“Everything completed on a permanent deal, €3.5m fee.
“Contract agreed until June 2027 for Marquinhos, born in 2003 and now set to be announced as new #AFC player.”
Club president Julio Casares all but confirmed the teenager’s departure earlier this week, saying: “The Marquinhos issue is a well-known issue.
“He didn’t want to stay. We tried everything.
“Even before the game against Racing, he didn’t want to stay. It was a contractual issue.”
Last season, the young talent impressed scouts with his three goals in 17 appearances. His wizardry on the pitch has drawn comparisons to countryman Douglas Costa.
Arsenal are set to kick off a busy summer, in need of two new strikers after the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners will kickstart their pre-season on July 8, travelling to Germany to take on FC Nurnberg.
