Graeme Souness has labelled CHELSEA decision to sign Cole Palmer in a £45m deal as ‘strange’.
The versatile 21-year-old Englishman made a total of 41 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, registering six goals and two assists, but made the shock decision to leave the treble winning Champions this summer.
The attacker has opened up and claimed that he wanted to play more and believes that a move to Stamford Bridge would give him the opportunities that he may not get under Guardiola at City.
But after seeing the young man make the move to Stamford Bridge – Souness has opened up and labelled the clubs decision to sign Palmer on a massive contract deal is strange and very bold.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID –
‘CHELSEA’s decision to spend £45million on Cole Palmer, a 21-year-old with three Premier League starts, strikes me as strange and extremely bold,’ Souness told the Daily Mail.
‘It might all come together for Chelsea, who are spending a fortune on players of enormous potential who one day, with a big question mark attached, might be top men for them.
‘Their supporters, like all others, want instant success. After a miserable season, they will have limited patience and won’t be slow in venting their frustration. I can see where they’re coming from.’

Fans need to believe in what the board are trying to do over the next few seasons – but that £45 million could have gone on someone like James Maddison, who has been brilliant at the start of the new seasons.
