Nigeria’s U-17 Girls National Team, the Flamingos, resumed camp in Abuja on Monday in the hopes of earning another world ticket.
According to the team’s media officer, Faith Oluchi, the team continued camping at the Goals Project on Tuesday, with all 25 invited players present and the team’s coach, Bankole Olowokeere, in command of the operations.
She also mentioned that the team will train twice a day for the next two weeks, in the morning and at 4 p.m., in preparation for the vital 2022 FIFA U-17 Women Cup qualifier against Egypt in the third round of the series.
To advance to the final round of the qualification series, the Nigerian maidens defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 8-0 on aggregate (3-0 in Kinshasa and 5-0 in Benin City) in the second round.
On Sunday, April 17, 2022, the Flamingos will face the Egyptians in the opening leg at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The return match will be held in Cairo on Saturday, April 30th, 2022, with the winner qualifying for the World Cup in India later that year.
So far, the Women’s National Team has had a year of qualifying series, with the Super Falcons earning a place to the Africa Women’s Nations Cup at the expense of Ghana’s Black Stars in February.
In the last round of the qualification series, the Super Falcons defeated their Senegalese counterpart 7-2 on aggregate to win the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup.
