Alvaro Fernandez has held potential transfer talks with the gaffer, as he is attracting interest from a pair of clubs.

Manchester United have plenty of young players who are knocking on the door of the first-team. However, the gaffer has made it clear that only the best of the best will be given the chance to play for the first-team with regularity.

The gaffer wants the next generation to earn their chances, rather than being handed them without really deserving the opportunity.

One player who the club have high hopes for is Alvaro Fernandez. The left-back had a decent pre-season, though he’s still behind both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia in the pecking order. With the latter suffering an injury, perhaps there was a chance for the young Spaniard to make a breakthrough.

However, according to The Mirror, Fernandez exit talks have been held with Ten Hag. Two clubs are ‘keen’ on a deal to sign the 20-year-old United starlet this summer.

Both Granada and Burnley are showing an interest in the ex-Real Madrid man, who is obviously too good for U23 football at this stage.

United are aware that the Spaniard’s progression will continue with regular football, after an impressive loan spell at Preston North End last term.

Understandably, the Reds aren’t keen to sell Fernandez permanently, as they are looking at a loan. Spanish club Granada want an option to buy him permanently as part of their proposal, while Burnley, albeit it a less advanced move, would also like a permanent transfer.

The verdict

United have a decision to make. In the end, I feel certain that they’ll keep Fernandez’s permanent future secured, though a loan move would benefit him.

It all depends on the severity of Malacia’s injury. If he’s out for a couple of months, why not keep Fernandez around and see what he’s got when Shaw needs a rest?

Do you think Alvaro Fernandez is good enough for the Man United first team? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
